Black Rock Park beach seems like the sea shore until you step out on the red gravel ‘sand.’ It’s a little rougher on the feet, but a great place to swim, especially with young children. It’s a day at the beach sans salt!

When You Stay in Burnet County, Visit Black Rock Park

If you’re staying in Burnet County, you will definitely want to check out Black Rock Park on the shores of Lake Buchanan in Buchanan Dam. Black Rock Park packs a whole lot of fun into its 25 acres with picnic areas; canoe, kayak, and standup paddleboard rentals; a boat ramp; a sand volleyball court; horseshoe and washer courts; a playground; a swimming beach; fishing; and a new addition: mini golf. They even have an event space, Lake View Hall, that is perfect for family reunions or parties.

Black Rock Park is a great escape — just for a day or several days. Day-use guests have access to the picnic areas scattered throughout the park as well as all of the other amenities. Overnight guests have several camping options from which to choose with 32 campsites (15 have full RV hookups) and 18 cute cabins with electricity (and, yes, AC!), which each sleep up to five guests. There is also a community restroom and shower area on site. The park is pet-friendly.

Now, let’s talk fun! If you are looking for something to do in Burnet County, the park rents canoes, kayaks, and standup paddleboards. Then, there is Black Rock’s new miniature golf course with nine holes of play. The first of its kind, this is the only lakeside mini-golf course on Lake Buchanan. The course is open from sunrise to sunset year-round.

With Lake Buchanan only a glance away, you can easily follow a friendly round of mini-golf with a dip in the water. The sandy beach area is the perfect spot to stake your claim and enjoy a day at the lake — splashing, floating, swimming, fishing, or boating.

Black Rock Park is owned and operated by the Lower Colorado River Authority. It is easy to find at 3400 Texas 261 in Buchanan Dam.

The park welcome groups and individuals and might be the perfect fit for your family reunion, company picnic, or spur-of-the-moment family getaway. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset all year.

Entrance fees are only $5 for adults. Children 12 and younger get in free. Seniors and those with disabilities pay only $2. Rentals are $10 for a two-hour minimum or $35 for four hours, $50 for eight hours, and $65 for 24 hours. Mini-golf costs $8 for the first round of nine holes and $14 for two rounds.
