February 2023: Short month long on events
Welcome to February, the month with a day devoted to love, which makes it the perfect time to visit The Highland Lakes of Burnet County with that special someone. Enjoy a couple of love-themed events, admire the works of Highland Lakes quilters, relive the days of 1950s rock ‘n’ roll, and get your twang on with some classic country music. It’s a short month, but there’s no shortage of things to see and do in The Highland Lakes of Burnet County.
HIGHLAND LAKES QUILT GUILD FESTIVAL
9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Feb. 3-4
Burnet Community Center, 401 E. Jackson St. in Burnet
Admire the intricate works of Highland Lakes quilters. The event also features a silent auction, vendor booths, and a Bits & Pieces room with pre-owned quilt books, patterns, and fabrics. Proceeds from the show help fund the guild’s charitable programs, including education scholarships for women seeking better careers.
COWBOY COFFEE WITH PARK RANGERS
9 a.m. Saturdays, Feb. 4, 11,18, and 25
Inks Lake State Park, 3630 Park Road 4 in Burnet
Learn how cowboys of the Old West prepared their coffee around a campfire and then share a cup with a park volunteer or ranger. Includes a dutch-oven treat. Bring your own cup or thermos.

The second-longest-running off-Broadway musical comedy celebrates love, warts and all, though a series of vignettes, from those awkward first dates to the older, wiser, seen-it-all golden years. (Originally scheduled to open on Feb. 3 but postponed to Feb. 10.)
WINTER OF ’59 DANCE PARTY
8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11
Globe Theatre, 132 W. Vaughn St. in Bertram
Celebrate the timeless tunes of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper, who played their final show on Feb. 2, 1959, before their plane crashed in Clear Lake, Iowa, killing them all. Sixty-four years after the “Day the Music Died,” their legacies live on.
