Brag-worthy brews in Burnet County

The beer business is booming in Burnet County. Breweries in the Highland Lakes malt, mash, ferment, and condition a wide variety of beers to please even the most persnickety palates. Beer lovers will be pleased with the quality, craftsmanship, and selection of IPAs, ales, porters, and lagers available from local brewers.

Burnet County boasts three brewhouses: Double Horn Brewing Company, Save the World Brewing Company, and Bear King Brewing Company. All are casually comfortable, pet-friendly, and family favorites. In addition to brews, two offer full food menus, and one is a tasting room that often has a food truck on site.

Double Horn Brewing Company

208 Avenue H, Marble Falls

Double Horn is a local family-owned, community-minded brewing company with the honor of being the first microbrewery in the Highland Lakes. Since 2011, Double Horn has served fun concoctions such as Massive Rack, “a cheeky take on the classic blonde ale;” Hot Melon, which just might register on the Scoville scale; and Rescue Moose Bourbon ESB, a deeply complex take on a classic extra-special bitter. Double Horn serves food and wine in addition to beer. It is located on the west side of U.S. 281 in downtown Marble Falls. Trivia nights, live music, and Sunday brunch are staples at this family-friendly downtown brewpub.

Save the World Brewing Company

1510 Resource Parkway, Marble Falls

“Saving the world one beer at a time” is the motto at Save the World Brewing Company, a philanthropic brewery with humanitarian roots. The brewery is serious about beer, bringing home gold and bronze medals in The U.S. Open Beer Championship for two of its brews: Chasing Broncos IPA and Hunt for Hazy. The brewhouse tasting room regularly runs a lineup of around a dozen or so beers and often has food trucks on site. Save the World is located off of U.S. 281 in the Marble Falls Business and Technology Park, across from the “Bluebonnet House” in north Marble Falls and away from the busyness of downtown. It hosts weekly trivia nights.

Bear King Brewing Company

207 Avenue G, Marble Falls

Bear King gives a nod to the mythical tale of a half-man, half-bear creature that lived in the shadows outside of Marble Falls. The mysterious beast-man was called ‘the Bear King.’ While you are not likely to find any half-man, half-bear at the brewpub, you will find a nice selection of beer such as Wandering Blonde-Blonde Ale, Monkey Bridge-Hefeweizen, and Moon Mountain-Stout with Cacao. The brewery serves food, wine, and cocktails in addition to beer. Bear King is located two blocks east of U.S. 281 in downtown Marble Falls. It hosts regular “Name that Tune” bingo and trivia nights and offers brunch on the weekend.

Honorable Mention

Downtown Beer Hall

209 Main St., Marble Falls

While Downtown Beer Hall does not brew its own, it does have 36 craft beers on tap. The beer garden has a limited menu and is a very casual, family-friendly spot located along the downtown green space on Main Street in Marble Falls. It hosts regular bingo, trivia, and art nights.
