Be Lake-Wise with LCRA guide

Highland Lakes hotel and short-term rental managers can spread the word to their guests about the importance of water safety (and maybe even save a life) with an assist from the Lower Colorado River Authority’s Be Lake-Wise campaign.

The program urges swimmers and boaters to keep safety in mind while having fun on the water. Businesses catering to Highland Lakes visitors can access the website and download safety flyers, signs, and graphics that can be incorporated into email messages, websites, and social media.

The free downloads offer a variety of swimming and boating safety tips, and lodgers can even include their business logos on the materials.

The Be Lake-Wise webpage, which anyone can access, offers an extensive guide to safety on the lakes, including information on the meanings of different buoys and markers. It also provides links to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department water safety and National Safe Boating Council webpages.

In 2022, 207 boating accidents resulted in 36 fatalities in Texas waters, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Most of the people killed were not wearing life jackets.
