April in Burnet County: festivals, flowers, and more 

April in Burnet County arrives with a splash of color as wildflowers add a multi-hued dimension to the countryside. The bluebonnet, Texas’ state flower, gets its own festival here, and artists from near and far gather this month to seek inspiration for their creative works. 

Live music and theater, nature hikes, and an Art, Herb, and Wine Festival round out this fun-filled month. The wildflowers won’t last forever, so plan a Burnet County road trip before they’re gone. 

GUIDED NATURE HIKE AT CANYON OF THE EAGLES

Learn about plant and animal life in the Highland Lakes from an expert, on this informative walk along the resort’s scenic trails. Wear comfortable shoes and bring your own water. 

BLUEBONNET FESTIVAL 

Friday-Sunday, April 7-9

Burnet County Courthouse Square and other locations in Burnet 

This popular 40-year-old celebration commemorates Texas’ state flower, a commanding presence along Burnet County roadsides every spring. Events and attractions include live parades, a carnival, a food court, vendor booths, and a demolition derby. Country artist Casey Donahew headlines Saturday night’s concert on the Main Stage.

PAUL THORN AT THE GLOBE 

8 p.m. Saturday, April 15 

Globe Theatre, 132 W. Vaughan St. in Bertram 

Mississippi-born singer-songwriter Paul Thorn brings his repertoire of Southern rock, country, blues, and Americana to this lovingly restored movie house/entertainment venue. Come for the music but hit town early for a stroll through this delightful little slice of Burnet County. 

“ON GOLDEN POND” 

Friday-Sunday, April 14-May 7 

4003 FM 2147 West in Cottonwood Shores 

The Hill Country Community Theatre presents this family drama on stage. Set in New England, it centers on a family’s complex, inter-generational relationships. Katherine Hepburn and Henry Fonda starred in the screen adaptation, winning Oscars for their performances, which was Fonda’s last. 

PAINT THE TOWN 

April 23-29 

Various locations in Marble Falls 

Plein air artists from across the country meet here and set up their easels to capture scenes of historic Marble Falls and the Highland Lakes in various media. The multi-day event includes a pop-up gallery, a quick-draw challenge, and a family art day. 

BERTRAM ART, HERB, & WINE FESTIVAL 

Saturday-Sunday, April 29-30

Arts, herbs, and wine make for a fun mix at this end-of-the-month fete. Shop the wares of local artists, growers, and vintners, listen to live music, sign up for a mini-seminar, and grab a bite from a food booth.
